I would like to monitor network devices. It seems to me that using the SNMP OID (object identifier) is the way to go. Has anybody defined a bunch of tests that can be made available ? My specific interest is :

Routers - Link / port utilization, throughput, interface errors, queue lengths, discards.
Switches - port utilisation & throughput & errors
Hubs - Collisions & errors

tx

Hi there...
I allready described this matter in another forum, but lets take another turn in here as well

Step into http://www.GOOGLE.com at search for "STG". Then You'll find a small & handy SNMP watcher... who can watch everything acording to your OID needs!

Please remark that this STG is a running application, and you'll need a running app. for every SNMP value/s you need to monitor! But you can have 20-30 running on the same screen without any problems!

We will - by the way - release a new version of STG with "build-in" setup like HM within 2-3 months.

Cheers,
Hans Mosegaard

PS: Ohh You did'nt find that link?

I highly recommend using MRTG to create graphs.
http://mrtg.hdl.com/mrtg.html
If you need assistance setting this up I can be reached at mpriess@ITArizona.com

You can use hostmonitor to monitor one particular OID at a time to keep an eye on %decrease, changessec etc. We use MG-Soft's MIB browser (http://www.mg-soft.net) to compile, edit and find values that we need. Then we plug these into hostmonitor as necessary. MG-Soft is by far the best MIB BrowserManager I've seen. Easy to use...it will automatically detect the MIBS a device requires and will load them for you. So far, I've only compiled lists of OID's to monitor COMPAQ hardware but I'll be looking at other network devices soon and will post it if you are interested.

Thx,
Mark
