Hi,

Does anyone know of a public email service to use for the email relay test?

The current test does not support all the necessary SMTP requirements of gmail/yahoo etc.

Test works well for internal Exchange folders, but know I want to monitor the successful delivery of emails outside of our organisation.

Suggestions welcome!

Many Thanks In Advance
Fergus

What is wrong with gmail?
It requires secured connection, HostMonitor supports both SSL methods (Implicit and Explicit) for POP3 and IMAP protocols so you may send e-mail to gmail account and check if mail reaches mailbox.

Do you want to send e-mail other way around, from gmail account to your internal mail server?

Regards

Ok - I'll give it another try.

I'm looking to test emails sent from within the company network/mail infrastructure TO an external account.

Many Thanks

Does your company SMTP server require SSL ?
If no, you may setup Mail Reply test like:
Outgoing server: smtp.yourdomain.com port: 25
Incoming server: imap.gmail.com port 993 implicit
and specify correct accounts information. Test will work

Great idea. In fact I was being dense, Using my own outgoing server is exactly what I need to do, otherwise all I am really testing is my internet connection!

Thanks, this has worked really well.

I'm setting up a series of monitors to check each mail relay in my organisation, Step 2 will be to automate a command line email from MS Outlook and check that it appears in Gmail.

One thought - and it probably not thought through enough yet to make it on the wish list - but an option to "Do not delete email" might be very useful;

In our experience during an email outage there is always a question about how long it takes for the stacked queues to clear when everything is back to normal. If the 'mail relay' generated mails were not deleted this could be used for analysis after the outage to see how long this took.

Many Thanks
Fergus

Command line? HostMonitor should send e-mail by itself, otherwise Mail Relay test will not work.
If you need to send e-mail by 3rd party application and check it by HostMonitor, I think you should wait for HostMonitor version 9, we will implement new "E-Mail" test method.
