We used to use a home-grown dialer application to allow HostMonitor to make phone alerts w/ pre-recorded messages, which would call down a list of numbers. But, the app was clunky and had lots of bugs.
We recently found PagerDuty, a webapp that lets you setup different alerts & on-call lists. It works wonderfully with HostMonitor, and I highly recommend it (I don't work for them).
Now, my question... Their latest version includes an API, which lets you trigger, acknowledge, and resolve incidents via an API. Currently, it is integrated into Nagios and competitors.
While I can make use the API with existing HostMonitor functionality to improve my personal experience, I was wondering if your team had plans for this, as it could then benefit all users. We won't even talk about how you'll do a much better job than I will!
What do you think?
PagerDuty Integration
Thanks Alex. That is correct... we currently send emails to trigger incidents.
I was just thinking that a tighter integration is possible, now that they have an API that could potentially allow HostMonitor users to right-click a test and perform a custom action which sends an Acknowledge (suspends alerts to the call list for 30 minutes) or a Resolution (resets the alert) and maybe even include a canned message or two.
Most of this is already possible to a HostMonitor user, thanks to it's extensibility, but I was just thinking that this would provide an immediate integration for those users that don't have the time or inclination to go through all of that on their own.
Thanks for considering the request & keep up the great work,
Frank
