Hello, I have a question about configuring connectivity tests for remote agents which are using the active test method. We have a test set up to ping the localhost from a remote agent, say, every 5 seconds for example. What is happening, is if the server is rebooted, or if the RMA agent is terminated, the recurrences of the test in HM stops going up, but it never switches to an unknown status.
Is there a way, using active agents, to have the test switch to unknown as soon as the test stops running? It seems like it should do this, so maybe this is a bug, or maybe I am just misunderstanding it. What I don't understand however, is that a test configured for the same agent, which runs every 30 minutes and just checks the drive's free space, DOES switch to unknown if the RMA agent is terminated between recurrences. Is it something to do with the shorter test interval?

Thanks for any advice.

This is correct behavior. If Active RMA loses connection, HostMonitor waits up to 4 minutes for reconnection (or use Backup RMA when posible). If connection cannot be restored within 4 minutes, HostMonitor sets Unknown status.
If you cannot use Passive RMA, you may decrease value of the following parameter (located in [ActiveRMAServer] section of hostmon.ini file)
TestTimeout=240
E.g. you may set TestTimeout=10 and restart HostMontor.

However I would not recommend to use this workaroud when connection to remote site is not stable. You will receive alerts just because connection was dropped for a minute...

If you need to start such alert for all RMA related tests, simply use option described in previous post.

If you need such option for single test only (while other test items should wait for restored connection within specified timeout), there is new HostMonitor for you: www.ks-soft.net/download/hm828c.zip
Please install version 8.28 before using this update.

This version allows you to setup Ping test using Active RMA; you may type rma itself instead of target host name. In such case HostMonitor will display agent connection status ('Host is alive' or 'No answer') immediately. HostMonitor will not use backup agent when specified agent is not connected; also HostMonitor will not wait for agent connection...

Alex
