Hello everybody,
long time no see.
The HM in the data center works great, but I'm missing one feature. We need a possibility to look at the past. You know, what I mean?
Tools like MRTG/RRDtool, Munin, Cacti and so on provide graphs of different stats of machines and interfaces and they compress the infos for further views.
The HM has the Log Analyser, but I can't create an overview about all Internet interfaces or about all fill levels of a server.
Is it possible to build something like that into the HM, that looks and feels like MRTG? I don't want to check the same states by 2 systems. We already got one monitoring system and don't need a second one.
Regards,

Hello Max,
and thank you for your rapid answer.
The LogVisualizer could solve my Problem, but the handling of the output leaves much to be desired. I could run a batch file for some tests and would get a lot of *.gif files. Is there any approach for a Web-Frontend like the MRTG uses to display the graphs? I want to run the Monitoring and the Historicisation in one system. It would be fine, if I could see the history graph of some tests in a Browser Window.

Hello Alex, hello Max,
I know the functionality of the Log Analyzer und the Log Visualizer. Both of them don't provide, what I need. But I found 2 possible solutions:
1) Log Analyzer:
The Log Analyzer generates HTML reports for all tests I defined. I can choose tests by their state or test method, but I can't say "take this one". I could log the tests I want to be visualized in another data source using the "Log & Report" option in the test properties. If the Log Analyzer processes the additional log source I will get the HTML report for the selected tests.
2) Log Visualizer:
The Log Visualizer works with the test ID, thus I don't need to log selected tests in another file. I could run a batch file which uses a text file of all wanted tests as a parameter and will get a lot of gif pictures. I just have to implement a frontend for a pretty presentation of the results.
I think one of this solutions will be my aspiration of a browser page like the MRTG got.
Any other ideas?

You are right, both solutions are not perfect, especially when you need to generate charts for web interface using specific test item.
We plan to implement some new options in version 8.nn (may be 8.50) but so far these 2 applications is what we have.

Good Morning Alex (...it's almost 8.30am here ),
If you also have no other idea, I will look for some other tools and if the effort of setting-up is already the same like implementing a frontend for the HM, I will do that.
You will find my results in the ''Library''-Forum

I'm thinking that it should be fairly straight forward to integrate HM test results with RRDTool/MRTG. I've worked with MRTG and SNMP quite a bit but not with RRDTool. Just now going through tutorials for this.
I've recently had a request that essentially involves deriving at set of time series data from HM test results and then providing real time graphing for these results for marketing and development teams.
I'd be very surprised if this was not already being done by several HM users. I've not seen a lot of posts on this topic but I'd prefer not to re-invent the wheel. |

Can you give us a little hint?
I've got a project that will involve writing HM output to an RRDTool database for graphing by MRTG of HM test results. This project could be delayed a bit if something in 8.20 will either help me accomplish that task or provide a viable alternative.
Any ETA for 8.20??? Thx! |

For example HostMonitor, RCC (and later Web Service) will be able to chow charts like these
Also HostMonitor will be generate some new reports...

Looks great, Alex!
Do you have any idea when graphs will be avaiable in HTML reports?
Thx! |

Alex,
This is a great development! Like others, this is going to save me so much time/effort. I can't wait to see 8.2 in the coming weeks. |

Any idea when 8.20 will be released?
We're about to deploy a new HostMonitor setup, so it would be nice to have the latest version.
Would be a pity to install 8.14 and just days later see that 8.20 is released. |
