I use a remote smtp server, and one of my tests is the integrity of the link to this remote site. I can't therefore use an smtp message if the link is down, but could use a MAPI message to a local user I think. Any way to do this

Use an external command for your 'bad' option and use mapisend.exe from the resource kit....

Thanks, I am a bit new to this...Got the mapisend working, but have a few problems with the outlook profile on the server, this is not a big deal. Any way to get past the "an external program is trying to access your address book" message, that requires a key press...

This is an outlook feature. Just don't run outlook on the server which is running HM.

To disable the message about an external program accessing your email address book, set the following registry entry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftSecurity]
"CheckAdminSettings"="1"

Note that this disables some of the new security checking features of Outlook, but it will resolve your issue.
