Service 'KS Advanced Host Monitor' won't start
Service 'KS Advanced Host Monitor' won't start
I can't get the Service to automatically start.
Event logs show...
The KS Advanced Host Monitor service depents on the following nonexistent service : TapiSrv
Yet I can start HostMonitor without issues from the desktop.
Any clues ?

Well, error message speaks for itself - you do not have installed TapiSrv (TAPI services).
I just wonder why this service is not installed on your system? Its installed by default on Windows 2000, Windows XP (Professional), Windows Server 2003, etc. As I remember even Windows NT 4.0 has this service installed by default.
As usually when you have some problem please report what Windows do you use? Version? Service Pack? Version of HostMonitor?
Regards
Alex

HostMonitor 7.74 on windows server 2003 Enterprise SP1.
I guess the server people didn't install that service when they built the server ?...i'll check with them.
I was really hoping there was a way to launch the service without the Tapi services.
Hostmonitor launches fine from the desktop icon, just not as a service unfortunately.

I do not see any problem here. Why you do not want to have installed TapiSrv?
Probably its installed but disabled. You may use standard Windows Services applet to check service status and change it.
Long name of this service is "Telephony", description "Provides Telephony API (TAPI) support for programs that control telephony devices and IP based voice connections on the local computer and, through the LAN, on servers that are also running the service."

I wish it was as simple as starting the service, but it's not listed as a service (that's the whole problem here) and i don't know how to install it.
It is completely missing from the list of services.
Do you know how to install the telephony service when it is missing completely from services list ?

I am trying to find such information but no luck so far...Do you know how to install the telephony service when it is missing completely from services list
On the other hand may be "server people" removed some other important components as well? Can they provide "normal" Windows system?
Also, we recommend to install Service Pack 2

Tapi etc
I know this thread is long dead but we too have the same issue.
Telephony is installed but disabled by a GP pushed out by our International head office as a 'security' measure (!!) {they are - to say the least - paranoid..}
As we don't use the paging facility we'd love to be able to carry on running NetMon w/out it depending upon the telephony service.
I appreciate this is non trivial to implment but can I ask it goes into the 'mix' for a forthcoming build?
Many thanks
Rusty.

Make optional the dependency on having the 'telephony' svc.
Thanks Alex - brilliant!
