The Network Monitoring

Post by Stone_ll »

I find that I can use the ping and trace tests to monitor a certain network by current version of HM.

Exactly
I monitor the Reply time of the network by trace test;
Another I monitor the percent of the lost package of the network by ping test;
Because the former two can alarm when the network is wrong.

But the reply time returned by trace is different from ping.

Now I am trying to use only a test. it is ping test .
So the question is that how to monitor both the lost and the reply time of a certain network only by ping test.
hoping for your reply .thanks.

If you want to see 2 different parameters in Reply filed, then you need to setup 2 different test items.

Sure, you may setup 2 different ping tests.
What is the problem? You may setup 2,3 or 100 ping tests.

But the ping test can only alarm when the lost% is more than a certain value.
I can not alarm the reply time when the reply time is out of the value I set.

Why not? You may use Optional Status Processiong options
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... processing
E.g. you may setup test timeout to 10 sec (10000 ms) and use "Use Warning status if %SuggestedReply%>2000" option to start alerts when reply time is over 2 sec. In such case you will see reply time in Reply field of the test when host responds within 10 sec.

now I can use 2 different test method to check the reply time and lost%.
How to monitor and alarm the reply time & lost% only by 1 ping method ?
Just as when the reply time is higher than a certain value or the lost% is more than 10% of my network.
thanks for your reply.
