Hi KS-SOFT,
We have some doubt about HOSTMONITOR and log analyzer application. We are going to set up a log server to retrieve all the logs including NW device(SWITCH,PIX,Load balance Device) log and UNIX log. I wonder if the HOSTMONITOR with log analyzer application could monitor the log file automatic and send out an alert when come acrossing any error , warning or any other kind of exceptions. If possible , could u pls provide us a detailed configuration steps. We need your reply ASAP. Thanks.

HostMonitor is designed as network management and monitoring software that continuously monitors servers' and network devices availability and performance. In the event of network errors, HostMonitor will alert the network administrator (or even correct the problem when possible) before problems get seriously out of hand.BE.Eric wrote:We have some doubt about HOSTMONITOR and log analyzer application. You may setup HostMonitor to monitor any network devices and servers. Here the complete list of test, that HostMontior is able to perform: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/index-tests.htm
Most of network devices (like switches, routers, etc.) support SNMP Protocol. So, you may setup "SNMP Get" test method to monitor different properties of each device.

To monitor log files HostMonitor offers "Text Log" and "Compare files" test method. These methods are able to search for the certain text string in a file and alert you if found.

To monitor "*nix" systems you should install Remote Monitoring Agent (RMA) on the particular *nix server. RMA is small application that accepts requests from HostMonitor, performs test (or action) and provides information about test result back to HostMonitor. There are agents for Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, MacOS, HP-UX, AIX, QNX available.
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rma-win/index.htm
For the each test you setup, you can assign an "alert profile" with set of actions (e.g. Send Email, SMS, ICQ, etc) to alert you if something goes wrong.
HostMonitor offers more that 30 different alert methods:

"Log Analyzer" is an auxiliary application for HostMonitor. It parses the contents of a HostMonitor's log file and presents the data as a variety of charts representing different test statistics. Log Analyzer may analyze all types of log files: HTML, Text, and DBF log files. In a second, administrator can get a snap shot of the host performance over a period of days or even months.

You just should install HostMontior and setup necessary tests for each device you want to monitor. HostMonitor is intuitive and easy-to-use software. You should not face to any problems using it.BE.Eric wrote:If possible , could u pls provide us a detailed configuration steps. We need your reply ASAP. Thanks.
BTW. Manual in MS-Word format is included into the package. You may find "manual.doc" in HostMonitor's folder.
Also you may use on-line manual, available at our site: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mframe.htm
Regards,
Max
