Host Monitor tcp connection test method problem

Post by yshuang »

I am tring 「host monitor」 software in my datacenter.
the major purpose is to monitor the status of each service port on server.
so i try to use "tcp connection" test method to test each service port.
but no matter how I test. the status of test always be "no answer".

So, I open a dos command line and do "telnet x.x.x.x 23 " test.
it will return the correct status......

I don't understand why?can anyone here give me sone hint?
(I installed host monitor on my windows XP NB)

thanks

Do you have installed some antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software? Non stanard winsock components?
Real-time antivirus software and personal firewalls often leads to such problems

I removed anti-virus software and it still didn't work.
"NO ANSWER"

Just wondering why should I remove or stop security setup.
I tried other software and had no these kind of problems....
It's not safe for to us.

You don't have to remove antivirus software if it works correctly. Unfortunatelly some antivirus/personal firewall software has bugs that lead to problems. These bugs might be unnoticeable when you work with application that uses single TCP connection to a single server (e.g. mail client), while the same bug may lead to many problems when software works with hundreds of servers (like HostMonitor does).
I removed anti-virus software and it still didn't work.
Do you have some clean system where you may install HostMonitor?

Also could you please provide more information?
- what version of HostMonitor do you use?
- do you use registered or evaluation version of HostMonitor?
- is it running as service or application?
- what about other test methods? UNC? Service? Ping? URL? is it working?
