Issue with retrieve process list.

Post by lk_fuz »

Hellow Fellas.

we are trying to attempt monitor SQLAgent service on a windows 2000 Sp4 server

We have all Disk space etc monitors running, but as soon as i try make a monitor for the SQLAgent i cannot retrieve service list or process list.

I just got Error 301: Cannot Retrieve information.

ive tried follow all posts i could find on this.

Also settings the log on account to the local administrator.

Same result.

Do anyone have any idea (im using RMA 6.82)

Are RMA and SQLAgent running on the same machine? Or they are running on different machines? Do you use "Connect as" box or "Connection manager" to specify the account to connect to target machine?

Please check the following settings:
1) RPC service should be started on both systems (system where RMA is running and target host)

2) Remote Registry service should be started on target system as well

3) perfProc.DLL should be enabled on target system
Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.

4) Check if "admin" account has KEY_READ access to the following registry key on target system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib.
To view/change permissions to the registry key you can use the registry editor utility (Regedt32.exe).

5) no firewall between 2 system blocks TCP ports above 1024

Utility is called exctrlst.exe You may use link below to download installation program called exctrlst_setup.exe from Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

"CPU usage", "Service", "Process" and some other tests requires admin priviledges and some services, like "RPC" and "Remote registry", started on the tartget machine (machine, where SQLAgent is running in your case).
Actually, "Error 301: Cannot Retrieve information" means that RMA is unable to retrieve necessary information from target machine. In most cases it means lack of privileges. So, are RMA and SQLAgent running on the same machine? Or they are running on different machines? Do you use "Connect as" box or "Connection manager" to specify the account to connect to target machine?

Hi.

I must say im really impressed with the response due to others hehe..

SQLAgent + the rma agent is running on the same machine.

Ive setup the Connect As to connect with administrator. = no go.

Ive tried settings the local agent to use administrator credentials aswell.

yeah ive installed that but that gives me a bunch of utilites?

Can you maybe clarify which one of these applications i have to use?

So, the RMA and the SQLAgent are running on the same machine, right? Strange, there is shold not be any problems retrieving the process list... In this case, you have to specify "<local computer>" into the "Check process on" box (local for the RMA) and select the appropriate RMA from "Test by" dropdown in "Test Properties" window of the "Process" test. Did you do that?
Is RMA started as a service? In this case you may specify admin account for the "KS Remote Monitoring Agent" using standard windows "Services" applet.
Are another tests you mentioned above, like "Ping", "Drive space", performed by the same RMA?

exctrlst.exe

Could you provide us Remote Desktop, VNC or Webex access to the machine, where HostMonitor is running?
