I have a problem with Hostmoniter version 6.42.
It is installed on a winxp pc, as a service.
The problem is, that it has stoped sending out alerts.
If I restarte the service it works for about an hour.
Then I have to restart the service agian if I want it to send alerts agian.
anyone got an ideer why?

Do you use registered or evaluation version of HostMonitor? The evaluation version of HostMonitor is fully functional, but it may show registration dialog and pause monitoring until you close registration popup reminder. If evaluation version is started as service, you have to restart the service.

Could you please send your registration name to support@ks-soft.net?
Is service running in interactive mode on local system? Then you should be able to click on HostMonitor icon (that is displayed in system tray) and check what is going on.
Please check is monitoring is started, check if alerts enabled or not, check status of the tests, check if HostMonitor is properly registered using menu Help->License.

Could you provide more information, please?kolkjaer wrote:I only have remote access to the computer.
It look like it stops monintering to.
- Do you use ODBC logging or ODBC Query test method? If yes, what ODBC driver do you use?
- Do you have installed antivirus monitor? Personal firewall? Content monitoring software? Non-standard winsock components? Network packet analyzer?
- Do you see any error messages in Event Viewer (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer applet)?
- Do you use "Remote Desktop" or "Terminal Service" to access the HostMonitor on the remote system? Or do you use RCC?
- Are you able to access the HostMonitor's GUI after it stops monitoring? Or you do have to restart the service?
- Do you see "Start Monitoring" and/or "Enable Alerts" buttons on the toolbar?
- What account do you use to start HostMonitor's service (menu "Options" -> "Service" tab)?
Regards,
Max

HostMonitor is able to write log file into database using ODBC. Do you use logging into "ODBC" data source? http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... tm#commLogkolkjaer wrote:1. Not sur what you mean
What about antivirus? Do you have any antiviruses installed, like McAfee, Symantec, TrendMicro, etc.?kolkjaer wrote:2. the only installed monitoring tool is Hostmonitor. Ethereal is installed but not in use.
We recommend to use Remote Control Console (RCC) to access the hostMonitor running on remote system. RCC allows you to work with HostMonitor which is running on a remote system just like you work with HostMonitor when it is started on your local system. http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rcc/index.htmkolkjaer wrote:4. Could you try to you use menu "Monitoring" -> "Start Monitoring" to resume monitoring? Do you see any suspisious records, like "Monitor stopped", in the system log (file is specified on "Options" -> "System Log" tab)kolkjaer wrote:5. Yes I have access to the GUI after it stops monitoring.
Could you take a look at it next time HostMonitor stops working? If you do see the "Start Monitoring" and/or "Enable alerts" buttons on the toolbar, it means that someone stop monitoring manually. Or monitoring has been stopped on startup. What option is selected from "Start/Stop" group in the "Startup Options" tab of the "Options" dialog? I would recommend you to select "start after loading" or "restore last status" option.kolkjaer wrote:6. Can't that atm, becouse right now it's working.

The antivirus real-time monitoring modules often leads to problems related to SMTP protocol, it even can crash HostMonitor. At the same time antivirus scanners work fine (scanner - module that checks files and processes from time to time, scanners does not modify system DLLs and registry, does not intercept TCP traffic and so on). If you are unable to disable antivirus, we recommend at least to disable real-time protection module or add the HostMonitor into exclusions list of the antivirus.kolkjaer wrote:2. there is installed Norman Virus Control
You have to configure HostMonitor's Remote Control Interface on RCI page in the Options dialog (menu Options) and setup user accounts: use HostMonitor's menu "User"->"Operators". Please note: the port specified in the "RCI" page should be opened on firewall to allow connections between HostMonitor's and RCC.kolkjaer wrote:4. Have just tryed RCC but keep getting "[31-08-2007 15:13:51] Connecting... Failed. Connection error"
Please, let us know. Could you provide us "Remote Desktop" or VNC access to the system, where HostMontior is running? It can help our further investigation.kolkjaer wrote:Will do that nest time.

So, it did not help because menu item "Monitoring" -> "Start Monitoring" was disabled? Or you were able to use menu "Monitoring" -> "Start Monitoring"? What about menu "Monioring" -> "Enable alerts"? Have you tried to use it? Do you see "Enable Alerts" button on the HostMonitor's toolbar?kolkjaer wrote:It's not posseble to get HM to start sending alerts after it stops bye using "Monitoring" -> "Start Monitoring".
Could you provide us "Remote Desktop",VNC or Webex access to the system, where HostMontior is running? It can help us a lot.
