Problem with SNMP Get Check on v 6.75c

Post by rc »

Hi Alex.

since we use a lot of snmp get tests for monitoring linux servers (1500 items - 4,9 / sec) I noticed, that sometimes some snmp tests stay in status "Checking" for some minutes up to half hour without test result.
But timeout is 2000 ms for snmp test and retries is set to 2. Polling frequency is 5 minutes. I'm not sure but I think that this phänomen appears only with connected devices with small network bandwidth over VPN Lan2Lan.
Hostmonitor server runs on Windows2003 SP2.
I hope you understand my problem.

Are you using RMA to perform the test? Otherwise test cannot stay in checking status for over 15 min.
What version of SNMP do you use? SNMP v1, 2c, v3?

Hi Alex,

sorry but we don't use RMA to perform the affected snmp tests. It's simple SNMP v1 get test to get status of process of some linux servers (e.g. SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.100.2). The servers are reachable over VPN lan2lan connection. Timeout is set to 5000, retries to 3, poll frequency 5 min.

Actual example from logfile. You can see that one check has a duration of 20 min:

24.04.2007 08:23:49 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:28:51 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:33:53 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:38:56 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:43:59 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:49:01 Ok 0
24.04.2007 08:56:11 Ok 0
24.04.2007 09:01:12 Ok 0
24.04.2007 09:21:17 Unknown Timed out

24.04.2007 09:21:54 Ok 0

Other tcp or udp tests are not affected.

I updated the hostmonitor after last example to V6.78.
Perhaps this is the solution for my problem (HostMonitor does not use Windows API anymore...)
