Alerts get disabled after reboot.

Post by helios »

Hi

Our Hostmonitor (6.54) is running on a Windows XP installed as a service. We have scheduled XP to install windows update every weekend at 03.00 Saturday morning.

It looks like that if the windows need to reboot during the update, the Hostmonitor starts up with alerts disabled. We then have to enable alerts again manually.

Have anyone else seen this? And how do I make a .hms scripts that automatically enables alerts again. I can find the commands for enable/disable test, but I can´t find out how to enable/disable alerts.

Regards

Alerts? May be monitoring is stopped? Please check Start/Stop options located on Startup page in the Options dialog.

Such command does not have much sense. If alerts are disabled, action will not be executed anyway.

The startup page is set to "start after loading".

Monitoring is running fine. But I have to choose the "monitoring menu" and select "Enable alerts" before the alerts works.

Thats why I´m lookin for the enable alerts scripts, just to make sure that alerts is working. I do see your point about actions not beeing executed, but I thought I would be able to schedule a task to run i.e. 1/2 hour after the weekly update

You enable alerts, restart system and alerts getting disabled again..
I see only 1 possible reason - you are using some script that modifies hostmon.ini file. May be you restore old hostmon.ini from backup at system startup or something like that.
Make sure that ini file contains "AlertsDisabled=0" line in [HostMon] section.

I just looked at the hostmon.ini. The parameter is set to "AlertsDisabled=1", although alerts are running now. When is this – and other settings- written to the Hostmon.ini file?

I will manually change it to "AlertsDisabled=0" and see what happens at the next reboot.

So, alerts are running, but AlertsDisabled=1? Strange. Are you sure HostMonitor uses this hostmon.ini? Probably, HostMonitor service is started from another forlder? Could you verify it? Have you installed several instances of HostMonitor on the machine?

It is saved after you press "Save" button in "Options" dialog.

The Hostmonitor service is started from the same folder as the Hostmon.ini file is placed in.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that I change the setting in the RCC and not directly in hostmonitor? I just change it in the Monitoring menu.

You are right. Looks like when you enable/disable alerts via RCC it does not affect hostmon.ini.... For now you may try to use "Disable alert reactions" option. Options is located on "Behavior" tab of "Options" dialog and work with RCC as well.

I just changed the setting in hostmon.ini for now. As long as I know what causes the issue I can live with it. So thank for you help so far.

We will fix this problem in next version.
If you need to disable/enable alerts, there are 3 possible workarounds for now
- Use Options dialog instead of menu Monitoring -> Enable/Disable alerts
- Use HostMonitor instead of RCC
- Edit hostmon.ini manually
