file contains string works for NT4 hosts, not W2k?
I use the 'file contains string' within HostMonitor on a W2k server. When checking a file on a remote NT4S station it reacts as expected. When checking a file on a remote Win2000S station it reacts always with the same status, regardless if the file contains the string or not. I cannot figure out why...
test method=compare file; alert when file contains string; string=performed; (compare is NOT case sens.; NOT whole word; test is NOT reversed)
Result is the Good/Alive alert, wethere the string is in the file or not.
If I DO reverse the alert the result is the Bad/Dead action.
If I play with 'reverse test' and 'file does not contain' the result is consequent, but string independant.
I'm not sure the file is checked, though the same file is sent with the alert succesfully.

It appears to be the queried file: checking the log file created by ntbackup (w2k) it gives a fixed status (like if the string is not found); If I create a new file (right mouse click-new-text document) checking the file is fine: the action is according the string found. Ntfs rights are both times the same (everyone FC), as is the owner (same as HM account). I created a local account with the same name/password as the domain account which is used for HostMonitor. No success either. Help... I've a deadline comming near.
