I need a bit of help.

I have set up a "SNMP Trap" test to be set to BAD when a "Cold Start" was performed.
I think it's not a good idea to implement a "Good Filter" condition to set that test back to OK without having really seen that error.
EDIT: i.e. after an amount of time

Therefore I'd like to set that "SNMP Trap" test back to OK manually after someone has seen and recognized that BAD condition.
But I can't find an easy and good way. (Web-Interface preferred)

Any ideas are welcome

Many thanks in advance

Juergen

HostMonitor does not provide manual option to change test status for SNMP or any other test method. This is against HM design.
On the other hand you may use different SNMP Trap message to change status of the test back to "Ok". Such message can be send by 3rd party software or by HostMonitor itself (if you configure SNMP Trap alert and assign it to some auxiliary test method).

Dear Alex,

as you write in the help file
Quote:
This test method is different from any other. Unlike rest of tests that really test some devices (by sending request and receiving response), SNMP Trap test method was implemented as listener - it does not send any requests.

this method is different.

Can you think about creating an enhancement for the GOOD-Filter section:
- Set Test to OK, when (manually) acknowledged

From my point of view that sounds easier than setting up a pseudo test for sending a pseudo trap to set the SNMP Trap test to OK.

What do others think who use this method for Traps that are not reset from the device itself (Link-up / Link-down is very easy. But what about warm start / cold start / authentication failure / fan-errors / Power-supply errors / temperature problems. From my point of view all these failures will not send a "GOOD" Trap, when the problem is fixed)

May we discuss that in the Wish-List forum ?

Many thanks

Juergen

I installed the update, but i think i am doing something wrong. The set-ack-and-ok function does not set the trap alarm back to green.

So, what exactly are you doing? You are using version 6.24 or 6.25? You are selecting SNMP Trap test method for ACK operation or you selecting several different test items?

Hi Alex,

I just installed the 6.25. This feature is very helpful for us!

May I refer to http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=12942&highlight=#12942 with two questions about SNMP Trap tests:

1. Why can't SNMP Trap tests be dependent on other tests?

2. Do you think you can implement the "escalation by counting the number of time intervals having passed by since the test went bad", too? Your "Yeah, may be we can implement this...." was very promising.

Kind regards

Thomas

When the trap test goes off (red), i use RCC to ack it but it does not go back to green.

We still cannot reproduce the problem
1) Could you please answer all my questions? Not just 1st one?
2) Have you set "Good message filter" to "Set Ok status by acknowledgement"?

Alex

1. Why can't SNMP Trap tests be dependent on other tests?

There are several reasons
1) technical: HostMonitor uses completely different code to manage SNMP Trap test items, it doesn't work like other tests
2) logical: HostMonitor cannot recheck device when Master test changes status. Especially when single SNMP Trap test may receive messages from many devices
3) may be there are some other reasons, I just do not remember
May be we can find some workaround for the problems, but I don't think this is high priority task.

This task has medium priority. And we have over 100 tasks with medium priority

I thought the extra "Set Ok status by acknowledgement" option would be added to the normal "Set Ok if received message satisfies ... " trap. Is there no way to have both options?
