"Duplicating" a test in multiple folders

Post by spud »

I am evaluting hostmonitor and am wondering about how best to solve a problem I have. Is there some way to include the results of a test in more than one folder without actually copying the test to each folder? I am trying to come up with views of processes and want to include the same test in multiple folders.
For example I would like to have a folder for process-A, and a folder for process-B. Both folders use a key server to run their process. Some servers or routers may be part of 10 processes, but I don't want to run the same test 10 times.

Sorry, this is impossible in current version. Probably will be implemented in version 5.50

As I've said before -- this is something that would also be of use to me. Glad to see it is on the list of possible future enhancements.

Implementing this would certainly not be trivial, but being able to perform a test once and then display portions of the results in various areas/reports/screens would be great.

BTW, I don't know of any network monitoring software that is capable of
doing this - but then again, I'm no expert.....

I did find a similar feature called "sharing" in a product by IpSwitch. A shared test is just a shortcut to the test result, not a new test. This feature would nice to have but, in the end I found Advanced Host Monitor to be a superior product. Finished my eval today and ordered Advanced Host Monitor.

Yes this is something we would love to use also.

I've made copies of tests as they are important to be in multiple folders - but it does multiply the number of tests and also the alerts if it fails.

To make an instance (clone) of an alert would be great.

This product is fantastic. My life is a lot easier with HostMonitor!!

Hi Alex,

Any idea as to when this might be implemented?

I'd really like to have, for example the same CPU test used across all my Windows servers. Then, if we want to adjust the frequency of the test for all servers for example we would only need to change the master test, and all others would change. This would be very powerful.

If you wanted to further customise a specific test there should be an option to MAKE UNIQUE... which would then break it off from the master test.

We like the product so much we have just approved our purchase order for lifetime updates :-)

Cheers,
Andrew

I am working on this right now.

That's different task. Don't have any idea when we implement it

Try the following:
- Use "Search" | "Find"
- Type in a search string that can find all tests you'd like to change (i.e. name your Tests "CPU Server <Servername>): Use "Find" "CPU Server"
- Press "F3" as many times as needed

Now all CPU Server tests are selected

- Click "Edit"
- Now you can change the schedule for all tests at once
