Cannot get pager feature to work

Post by provoshane »

I am using Host Monitor v5.92 and I am having difficulty getting HostMon to dial my beeper number. I have tried a US Robotics Internal V.90 Smart Modem and I have tried a US Robotics External 33.6 Fax Modem. I am using Windows XP.

Here are the errors I am getting:

10/22/2006 10:26:59 AM Error: Cannot send message to pager 17134210159. Error Opening COM port (TAPI1)
10/22/2006 10:26:59 AM Next attempt to send message will be made in 15 sec
10/22/2006 10:27:14 AM Error: Cannot send message to pager 17134210159. Error Opening COM port (TAPI1)
10/22/2006 10:27:14 AM Next attempt to send message will be made in 15 sec

Suggestions?

Is HostMonitor running as service? In such case, I suppose, you should assign "Log on as service" privilege to user account, HostMonitor service is running under. You may do it using Local Security Policy applet (Start > Run > secpol.msc > Local Policies > User Right Assignment > Log on as a service).

Do not forget to restart HostMonitor service.

No, I am running it as a program, after starting the PC.

Could you verify if Telephony service is started? You may use standard Windows Services applet (Start > Run > services.msc)

Have you installed SP2 on your Windows XP box? Do you use Windows XP x64 bit? What options have you specified in Options > Pagers tab? Are you able to select your modem from "Use devices" combobox? Probably, you shoud specify "Modem Init String" and "Baud Rate" appropriate to your modem.

Yes, I am running SP2, I am running the Windows Media Center version of XP. I have selected the modem, and I have tried manually entering init strings into the host mon ini file.

Its not about init string. Windows does not allow to use the port. May be its in use by different application? Can you access modem using HyperTerminal?

Could you try to add "FixedPagingPort=COM1" line into [Misc] section of hostmon.ini file and restart HostMonitor?
Of course you should specify port that is used by your modem (instead of COM1).

It shows the same error message?
H'm.. could you add another line into hostmon.ini file, add pgDebugFile=name_of_the_debug_log_file into [Pagers] section.
E.g.
[Pagers]
pgDebugFile=c:\hostmon\logs\debug.log

Restart HostMonitor, trigger the action and send log file to us (support@ks-soft.net)
