Problems monitoring Performance Counters

Post by apperrault »

Hi all,
I am trying to setup Hostmon to monitor my Exchange Server using the Perfmon counters that have been suggested in other areas of this forum, but I am having a problem. When I add a new test, and then try and add a Performance Monitor Test, i try to browse to the machine that i would like to monitor, and i get an Unable to Connect to machine error on each system i try to connect to. Does anyone know why this would be happening? All of the systems that I am trying have the RMA installed on them, and they are installed using the LocalSystem account. All the systems are Windows 2003 Server machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

HostMonitor should be running under admin account, that has neccessary rights on remote machine. Also you may specify account for particular macine using Connection Manager (HM > Profiles > Connection Manager)

If you want to use RMA to perform certain test, you should select agent using "Test by" dropdown on Test Propertis window. I think RMA should be started under admin account, not Local System.

You perform the test using RMA installed on system in separate network?
RMA can execute Performance Counter test but it does not provide information for "Select a counter to monitor" dialog. This means you should type name of the counter manually, or you may select counter from local system and then change hostname or IP address.
