we are using host monitor in a distributed enviroment, means all offices of our company are connected via a vpn.

currently only one host monitor service is running in the head office and monitoring through vpn the servers at the other locations.

problem on this is that a vpn loss will result in "no answer" messages at all servers at the other locations. we may create a master test or dependet tests, but this will not reflect the real status of the servers because each location has its ISP and will be up normally even if the VPN fails (e.g. because the head office ISP is down).

any ideas how to create a distributed enviroment with host monitor? would be likely that each location needs its own host monitor but somehow the reports need to be consolidated-

we would have no problems with the logfiles. they can be stored in a centralized sql table.

I think to consolidate reports you can create HTML page with links to different reports (one office - one report).
Probably you have backup chanell (dial-up)? In this case HostMonitor can detect problem with VPN and establish backup connection. Its much better that install HM in every office.

You could also try to ping the WAN IP of the router at the other site instead of the default gateway.
Depending on the ISP you won't reach the WAN IP through the backup line.
You can find out the WAN IP with a tracert.
