What exactly do you need?
You want to save log results? You want to execute some SQL query and check test result? Or you want to monitor some Performance Counters?

To execute SQL query HostMonitor uses ODBC technology, it means it can work with any SQL server if you have appropriate ODBC driver installed

We have not tested HM with SQL 2005 yet, but you can log test results into SQL 2005 without hesitation. I know exactly ODBC works fine with SQL 2005.

If you have SQL 2005 installed, could you trying to test HM with it? It would be great you share your results with community.

I will begin test with SQL 2005 on monday, but could you tell me if AHM must be installed on same server running SQL or could it works in separate server.

It doesn't really matter. AHM uses ODBC Data Sources for ODBC logging and you could configure them on your needs.
