Requirements for hardware
Requirements for hardware
I have configured about 2000 tests, most of which are SNMP get tests. The platform on which HM is installed is a Windows 2000 SP2 on a Pentium 4 3,2GHz and with 1GB or RAM. I have set a 20 tests per second limit and have had no problems yet (at the moment the load is 16 tests per second). Do you think the hardware, as it is now, is capable of executing 3000 more tests, let's say with a limit of 40-50 tests per second? Should i add more RAM to the pc? Or will i need to buy another HM lisence and install a second HM to perform some of the added tests?
Is there a maximum number of tests that HM could be able to handle on the above pc, according to your opinion Alex?
In case i decide to setup a windows 2000 cluster, will HM be able to perform load balancing by itself, therefore reducing the cpu and ram load on each machine?
What would be the best solution for me, in order to monitor/perform many thousand of tests using a single HM test database and log?

I cannot answer this question. System utilization depends on test methods, test settings, various options, how often you want to perform the tests, system settings and so on and so forth...Is there a maximum number of tests that HM could be able to handle on the above pc, according to your opinion Alex?
For example Ping test method requires less resources than Performance Counter test.
You cannot calculate resource usage even for specified test method. E.g. "Compare Files" test with "Compare Size" option enabled may use 1000 times less resources than the same "Compare Files" test with "Compare Contents" option enabled (depends on size of the files). "Count Files on C:\" will use much more resources than "Count Files on C:\Program Files\HostMonitor\Examples". And so on...
HostMonitor does not perform load balancing on cluster. However HostMonitor starts each test in separate thread, so Windows should be able to balance system loading. In case i decide to setup a windows 2000 cluster, will HM be able to perform load balancing by itself, therefore reducing the cpu and ram load on each machine?
