Hi,
I am trialling Hostmonitor and have downloaded and installed the latest version from the website.
I have setup the RMA on a local server Windows SBS 2003 SP1, and a remote server (Win2000 SBS server). The RMA is connected to via port 1055 on the router/firewall.
Hostmonitor is running on Windows XP SP2.
I have setup a selection of tests for both the local and remote servers. Hostmonitor reports the status of all the tests from the local server consistantly, with a result on every poll.
When hostmonitor polls the RMA on the remote server it usually returns the status, but often the status changes from checking to "RMA: Connection Error". On the next poll or 2 it eventually gets a result.
I've set my monitoring on the remote server to alert me after 5 consecutive bad results and this works because no single test has been unable to talk to the RMA 5 times in a row.
I would however be happier to have the test returning a result on every poll. Is this simply because of the connection speed to the remote server (ADSL 2mb/256)? Do other people have this problem? I have many other remote servers to add when I am happy with the setup.
Many thanks
Neil

Hi, the firewall is hardware based, but I don't think this is the problem as packets are clearly getting through. I also have a TCP test on the external IP of the firewall and it is consistantly at 100% response, it appears to be the RMA that is wobbly in replying. I searched for connection error before posting my message but came up with nothing that helped.
Thanks
Neil
Thanks

"Connection error" has only one meaning - HostMonitor cannot establish TCP connection with the agent within specified timeout.
What timeout have your specified for the agent?
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #agentlist
Try to increase timeout. If this does not help, there is some network problem.
There is one more reason for such error except of timeout and network problem: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rma- ... m#problems
But this does not apply to you - you have installed RMA on server.

Alex

You are checking system where RMA is running? So, it should be timeout issue, increase timeout specified for the agentI also have a TCP test on the external IP of the firewall and it is consistantly at 100% response
