You were right, the file a.txt contained unicodes, which weren't shown in Notepad..!!

I have changed "Event type" switch to "any of the following". It's strange though, because tests from other servers had the same setting and were not reporting as bad. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks! It works much better now. I've stopped and started the service like crazy and no connection errors occured

Both tested on NT4 and Windows2000.

I cheered too early: the error came back.

We replaced the rather outdated machine for a faster one. Performance is now much better and it seems to occure only seldomly now.

I don't know how, I don't know why, but the error has disappeared, and has not come back for the past 7 days...

Sorry for not making myself clear. It is hostmonitor who checks the eventlogs, not I. The errors are not shown in the eventlogs, but in the Hostmonitor ...
