Clarification on event logs

Alex: I double checked my results and when I remove the user running the tests from the Event Log Readers group and put that user in the Administrators group I again get the System Error: Coder5 Access is Denied message. I am monitoring the Windows Application Event Log not the Security Event Log. T...

Problem is SOLVED

Alex: I finally solved this problem of access to the Event Logs and wanted to let you know about it as I think you may get similar questions. You were correct it was a true security access problem. The solution was to add the user account on the 2008R2 Server into the User Group "Event Log Read...

One more point

I forgot to mention that as a test I installed a full Host Monitor system directly on the 2008R2 server and that was successful in testing its own Event Logs. But that is the only way so far I can make the test work.

Problem still exists

Alex: I am still trying to solve this. I used the latest release of Host-Monitor and installed an RMA on the 2008R2 Server I am trying to monitor. The passive RMA does not function and the active RMA is only partially functional in that the RMA Manager reports the RMA on the 2008R2 Server has not ye...

Alex: I watched the security event log on the host while running the event log test from the Host Monitor computer (both on the same LAN). There were NO security events logged when I ran the tests. I am wondering still about the version of Windows I am using on the Host Monitor computer (Windows Ser...

Could it be the Event Log path is different?

Alex: I am using the same admin account on both the host computer and the Host Monitor system with the same user password. Could it be a problem that the path to the Event Log is different on a Server 2008R2? I get this message trying to set up the test and selecting the event log from the pulldown ...

Cannot monitor NT Event Logs on Windows Server 2008 R2 hosts

I am getting "System Error: Code5 Access is Denied" attempting to monitor Windows Application Event Log on a Server 2008R2 host. There is no local Windows firewall active on the host. I have tried supplying the user name and password of the administrator on the host as part of the test con...

Problems upgrading to 6.70 beta

I tried to update my v.6.24 Advanced Host Monitor to v.6.70 beta and it would not recognize my registration name and ID after the upgrade even though I re-entered it and restarted the program. All of my saved tests started failing saying there was a license violation. When I re-installed my previous...

How are passwords protected?

I would like to know what type of encryption and what strength of encryption is used on the Host Monitor server when you enter passwords into specific tests. Also, when those passwords are transmitted to the RMA, what is the type of encryption and the strength? Also when those passwords are transmit...

How to update the version of rma_cfg.exe?

What is the best way to update the version of an existing RMA with the latest version of rma_cfg.exe? If you use the agent update feature in the RMA Manager and pick the rma_cfg.exe file it writes that over the rma.exe instead and makes a real mess of things. Do you update the RMA.exe first, then ju...

Windows 2000 System Event Log error when starting as service

I am starting Host Monitor v.4.86 as a service on a Windows 2000 Server. The service is logging on using the Local System Account and allowing the service to interact with the desktop. Every time the server starts up it logs an error in the System Event Log .. Service Control Manager, Event ID 7022,...

Replies to monitoring Windows XP host

I have checked all the settings you mention and they are OK. I have turned off the XP SP2 firewall completely. There is no software firewall running either. Monitoring the service I get Win32 error #5. Monitoring the available memory I get "unable to access the desired machine or service There ...

The test that are failing on Windows XP hosts

The only test I can get to work is Ping. I have tried at least these three with no success: Service test Performance counter (memory available) UNC (availability/free space) If I take the exact same tests above and direct them to the same remote site to a host with a different IP that is Windows 200...

Is there some trick to monitoring Windows XP hosts?

I am having almost no luck monitoring Windows XP hosts. The exact same tests that work on Windows 2000 or even Windows 2003 Server get "unable to connect" and "Win32" errors on XP hosts. I am using an administrator user and password and there is no XP firewall applied to the netw...

What are the requirements for a host to be monitored?

I am having problems monitoring several hosts. Of all the test methods I have attempted only Ping and Trace are successful. I am successfully monitoring other hosts at the same site. These problem hosts are Windows NT4 Client and Windows XP machines that are highly configured to auto logon and run j...
