no i mean a method to receive alerts via mail etc.
for example i'm running an update or backup script under unix/solares etc. and i want to send a message if the updates are failed. so hostmon is checking for mails or waiting for mails (or a check-incomming-mail testitem) so hostmonitor can log these errors. |

There is no "check-incomming-mail" test method.
There is complette list of test methods:
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/index-tests.htm
If you want to send messages from some other application (started on remote system) to HostMonitor, you may use SNMP Trap messages.

I don't think we will be able to implement this option in next version. May be version 8.50.. not sooner.
If your application can start external command, why you do not want to use SNMP Trap message? I think you can easily find command line utility that allows you to send SNMP Trap messages to HostMonitor.
Actually, you may install RMA on that UNIX system and forward alerts from your application to HostMonitor using some other test method...
