Hello!

I’m evaluating HM version 4.86. It’s required to monitor server located behind firewall.

When I try to set RMA connection parameters from both HM and RMA I get an error message “Connection error”. RMA log contains success message “Connection from ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ .. Accepted”.

Both passwords are the same. Specified port is open.

My configuration:

HM – Windows XP Professional SP2 with latest updates.
RMA – Windows 2003 Server with latest updates.

I received the same error (and success in log) while trying to connect HM telnet.

RMA installed on local computer fails with the same error.

Versions 4.74 and 4.80 do not work too.

Is this known behavior? Is there workaround?

thnx.

What about RMA's "failure" log (log2.txt by default)? Any records?
Are you sure password is correct?
RMA writes record into "success" log when it accepts TCP connection, then RMA may reject connection on authentication stage.

I do not understand. You cannot connect to HM using telnet because HM does not listen on port that is used for HM<->RMA comminucations. You may connect to RMA using telnet...

It's empty

Absolutely

I tried to manage HM via telnet (HM Telnet Service), not RMA.

HostMonitor displays "connection error" right after test getting "Checking" status? Or there are some time interval between 2 events? I mean for how long test item displays "Checking.." status?

So, you can connect to Telnet Service but Telnet Service cannot establish connection with HostMonitor? Telnet Service and HostMonitor running in the same network?

HM displays error immediately аnd again if I switching RMA off, error occurs after some time.

There are some new facts. I installed HM Monitor and RMA on clear Windows XP SP1 (running on VMWare). Here is testing results:

HM (new installation) <-> RMA (new installation) – works fine!
HM (new installation) <-> RMA (old installation) – works fine!
HM (old installation) <-> RMA (new installation) – DOES NOT WORK!
HM (old installation) <-> RMA (old installation) – still DOES NOT WORK!

It seems like something wrong with the Windows XP SP 2 with latest updates or with the installed software. But I don’t want to reinstall it. =)

Right

Yes.

PS: HM Telnet Service is not big deal. I’m not going to use it in a future. RMA is more important for me right now.

I am afraid I cannot provide much help from my side
Do you have some "sniffer", I mean packet analyzer? You may try to check what is going on in the network...

Bad news =( Other software doesn’t provide such functionality.
