Hi all, i'm a newbie to IP-tools, (i know basic stuff about ip address etc anyway)

the problems i'm having are: -

1) netBIOS - when i type in an ip address, i just get something like this

GetStatus (Machine : xx.xx.xx.xx Interface : 27) .. Result : ncb_lana_num field invalid

i dont know what to put in the "Interface num" or whatever, please can someone explain all this to me.

2) Telnet - using in general...

when i type in an ip and port, it will connect (conection established displays).

Then when i type "Help" or anything else to bring up a list of commands it come up with session closed straight away.

PLEASE HELP!!!

thanks in advance

It depends on systems, different computers has different interfaces. Many of them does not support NetBIOS protocol at all. You can specify range of interfaces (e.g. 0-11), IP-Tools will try to use all of them.

What port/service do you use? Some servers/services support Help command, some doesn't

When you use telnet utility you specify host and port. Right? What port do you use?

80 port used by HTTP protocol (web server). Web servers do not support HELP command and usually web servers drop connection after each received request. HTTP server supports HEAD, GET, POST, PUT and some other commands.
If you want to check how HTTP server works, you don't need to use Telnet utility, use HTTP Client utility (introduced in IP-Tools version 2.20)
