SNMP GET on Linux Debian 9

Post by spaispai »

Dear KS-Soft team. We have several Debian machines that we want to monitor using SNMP. We have succeeded with this on our test machine. But I can't get it to work on the next machine.
- I'm running Advanced Host Monitor 12.70
- The test is run by a Active RMA 7.40
- I always get a RMA 301 Timeout
- If I change the agent and let "HostMonitor" do the test directly, I get "Timeout"
- Setting the timeout to up to 12000 hasn't helped
- When using a different SNMP Tester Tool, I can query Debian just fine, from the same machine that the RMA is running on
- The RMA has all the possible "rights"
- The RMA is also running other SNMP GET checks on other devices, which work fine
- I tested with different OIDs, for example 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1.2.1
- I double and triplechecked the credentials the agent is using

At the moment I'm not sure where the problem lies. I think it must be a combination between this Debian 9 and Advanced Host Monitor in particular. Do you have advice on this?

Many thanks in advance
Best regards

I don't think there is anything wrong with Debian, HostMonitor or RMA.
Sounds like wrong SNMP credentials set for the test (SNMP version, community string or auth password).

Can RMA request OID like 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0?
May we see settings you use for the test and for "different SNMP Tester Tool"?
Better use e-mail for private data, not this forum.

Hi Alex

Thank you for your answer. It's pretty embarrassing, but apparently it really was a credentials problem... I can't explain how it happened, but I must have entered them wrong a lot of times. Sorry about that. It's working now :D
