Never mind ... the RMA version listed on my remote Windows machines was 3.84, listed as 'operable'. I updated to the 3.96 that came along with HM 8.06, and surprise! text log tests ran normally again.
Yes, that's common mistake - use software components from different packages like RMA from package version 6.00, HostMonitor version 8.02 and RCC from package version 7.70.
Please use ALL components from the same package.
